FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team saw its season come to an end, as the Knights fell at Sacred Heart, 2-0, at Campus Field to conclude the year with an overall record of 9-8-1.
The Pioneers took the early lead late in the 29th minute on an unassisted goal from Marcelo Simoes and went into halftime with the 1-0 lead. Over the first 45 minutes of play, each side had six shots.
FDU came out on the attack in the second half but just could not find the back of the net. The Knights held a 10-3 advantage in shots in the second half and 16-9 for the game. FDU recorded six shots on goal, including five from senior
Kean Lewis (Patlipada Thane West, India/).
With less than 90 seconds remaining in the game, Sacred Heart officially put the contest away with a Joey Lyons' goal in the 89th minute.
Senior goalkeeper
Jacob Lissek (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Rock Canyon) made two saves for the Knights in the final match of his career. He will go down as one of the greatest goalies to ever play at FDU.
The Pioneers' Tucker Hackett was forced to make six saves between the pipes for Sacred Heart.
The performance today was a reflextion of how most of the Knights' NEC contests went this season. FDU outshot its conference opponents by nearly a 2-1 margin, but the Knights have struggled to finish their chances, which has been the difference.
