HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball team fell to Hofstra, 80-58, Sunday evening at the Mack Sports Complex. With the victory, the Pride improve to 1-1 on the season, while the Knights fall to 1-1 overall.

"We ran into a very hungry and athletic CAA team today, and we just struggled all night putting the ball in the basket," Head Coach Greg Herenda said. "I am proud that we came out in the second half and played harder and a lot better. We will bounce back and grow from our first road experience."

The Knights took a 9-8 lead into the first media timeout, but Hofstra came out of the break on a 7-0 run and never looked back. Shooting 65.6 percent in the first half from the floor, the Pride, led by Dion Nesmith and Darren Payen, who each scored 12 in the first stanza, took a 50-27 lead into the locker room.

FDU was led by Gillette over the first 20 minutes, as he scored seven points in nine minutes of action.

In the second half the Knights outscored the Pride and cut the deficit to as little as 15 with 5:31 to play in the contest, but Hofstra ended the game on a 12-5 run to seal the victory.

The Pride was led by Jamall Robinson, who netted a game-high 15 points, while Moussa Kone led all rebounders with 12.

FDU will return to action Friday, Nov. 15 when it travels to West Hartford, Conn. for a contest with Hartford. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
