TEANECK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's team picked up one point in the Northeast Conference standings Sunday afternoon after battling Wagner to a 0-0 draw at University Stadium. The Knights are now 6-6-2 (2-0-1 NEC) on the season, while the Seahawks go to 8-4-2 (1-2-1 NEC) overall.
FDU limited the highest-scoring team in the conference to no goals, as Wagner came into the contest with 27 on the season. The Knights outshot the Seahawks, 13-10, including 7-4 in the first half and 4-0 in the two overtime periods.
Senior goalkeeper
Sage DoVale (Lilburn, Ga./Collins Hill) picked up her fourth clean sheet after controlling the box and making one save.
FDU had two good opportunities to score in the first half, with the first coming in the 22nd minute, as sophomore
Esther Rochon (Saint Romuald, Quebec/College Francois-Xavier-Garneau)'s shot from inside the box was saved by Wagner's Katie Marcy.
After the Seahawks had a goal waved off because of an offsides call, freshman
Giselles Perez (Cartaret, N.J./Cartaret) delivered a rocket from the left side of the box, but Marcy made a great save to prevent the goal in the 29th minute.
With just less than 10 minutes before halftime, things got a little interesting for the Knights' defense after a Wagner free kick, but FDU was able to clear the ball to escape from any damage.
The second half saw the Seahawks go on more of an attack, as they outshot the Knights, 6-2. Sophomore
Noelle Picone (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial ) saved the game for the Knights in the 82nd minute after being in the right place at the right time of a Wagner shot destined for the back of the net. The Seahawks had a fast break and a pass was made across the box from the right side in front of DoVale. Wagner's Sydney McCarthy then had an open look at the goal, but Picone was able to clear the shot out with her right foot from the goal line.
In double overtime, Rochon was right in front of Marcy with a chance to win the game in the 102nd minute, but she was unable to strike the ball with any authority, allowing Marcy to collect the save, her seventh of the afternoon.
Neither side was unable to create another scoring opportunity the rest of the way, resulting in the scoreless draw.
FDU will return to action Friday, Oct. 18 when it hosts Bryant at University Stadium for a 7 p.m. NEC contest.
