M. Soccer Falls at Robert Morris, 2-1

Box Score

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team came up short against Robert Morris, 2-1, Sunday afternoon in Northeast Conference action and a battle of the third and sixth-ranked teams in the NSCAA North Atlantic Poll. With the victory, the Colonials improve to 6-4-2 (1-1-0 NEC) on the season, while the Knights fall to 7-4-1 (0-1-1 NEC) overall.

For the second time in the last three contests, FDU found itself down 2-0 at halftime. RMU scored its first goal in the 35th minute after a low corner kick by Bruce Cullen bounced high into the box, where Miro Cabrilo headed it inside the near post.

Five minutes later Cullen set up the Colonials' second goal, as he played a short cross to the feet of Neco Brett in the center of the box, who then found the inside of the left post.

The Knights best chance in the first half came in the 32nd minute after a bouncing shot by junior Anders Vest-Hansen (Nykobing, Denmark/Celf) was stopped, but not corralled, by RMU goalkeeper Joseph Kuta. The bobble gave senior Kean Lewis (Patlipada Thane West, India/) a chance but not before Kuta was able to smother the shot.

Over the first 45 minutes FDU outshot the Colonials, 8-3, but the home team found the back of the net on two of their shots.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, junior Nico Wright (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Jamaica College) fired a shot from 18 yards out that deflected off an RMU defender and was going straight for the back of the net, before a Colonial headed it over the crossbar.

The Knights got on the board in the 75th minute when freshman Christian Dietrich (Berlin, Germany/Flatow-Oberschule) feathered a diagonal pass into box for fellow classmate Enver Caymaz (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes), who knocked a low shot inside the right post for his first career goal.

FDU fired off two more shots over the final 15 minutes but could not come up with the equalizer.

The Knights finished the contest with a 16-7 advantage in shots, with eight coming on goal. Six of RMU' seven shots were on goal. Senior goalkeeper Jacob Lissek (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Rock Canyon) made four saves for FDU. Kuta turned away six shots for the Colonials.

The Knights will have six days off before returning to action Saturday, Oct. 19 when they host Central Connecticut State for a 7 p.m. Northeast Conference matchup at University Stadium.
