TEANECK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team will continue nonconference action this weekend as they travel to Hartford and take on Air Force in the 2012 home opener. The Knights will take on the Hawks in West Hartford, Conn. on Friday, Aug. 24 before hosting the Falcons at University Field at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
The Knights started the 2012 slate with a 1-1 tie against Iona and a 2-0 loss to Saint Peter's. The team outshot its opponents 29-16 in the first two games of the season, with 14 shots on target.
Freshman Esther Rochon (Saint Romuald, Quebec/College Francois-Xavier-Garneau) has scored the Knights lone goal of the season, while classmate Amanda Goulet (Quebec City, Quebec/Shattuck-St. Mary's ) recorded the assist against Iona.
Hartford will begin its 2012 season against the Knights. The Hawks recorded no loses in a 13-0-3 start to the 2011 season, including a 2-0 win over FDU in Teaneck.
This season, Hartford was selected to finish second among the America East. Under ninth-year Head Coach John Natale, the Hawks outscored opponents, 31-8, in 2011, while recording shutouts in 12 matches.
The Hawks return leading scorers Caitlin Alves and Amelia Pereira from last year's roster. Alves led the team with 10 goals and five assists, while Pereira had six each. The duo both notched points against FDU in last year's game. Including last year's loss, the Knights are 0-4-0 all time against Hartford.
The Falcons of the Air Force Academy are 2-0 on the season after defeating Lamar and Montana.
Fourth-year Head Coach Larry Friend returns 16 players from last season's squad, while adding 11 new recruits. The 2011 team went 6-10-3 last year.
Of those returning Megan Dozier has led the team with two goals and one assist this season, while Leah Britt has also recorded two goals.
Kelly Stambaugh has made nine saves through two games, while tallying two shutouts.
The Knights fell to Air Force, 1-0, in 2010. Sunday will be the program's second time facing the Colorado-based military academy.
Following the weekend, the Knights host Delaware State on Friday, Aug. 31 before facing in-state opponent, Rider, on Sunday, Sept. 2.
