Box Score

Jersey City, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team fell to Saint Peter's College, 2-0, in its first loss of the season on Sunday, Aug. 19.  Although the Knights outshot the Peahens, 16-5, Saint Peter's scored two second-half goals to take the win.  The Knights fall to 0-1-1 on the season, while SPC improves to 1-1.

FDU took control of the ball early in the first half and continued to pressure the Peahen defense.  In the 17th minute the Knights challenged SPC with three consecutive shots.  An attempt from freshman Mackenzie Reese (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area ) hit the crossbar before freshman Katey Arathoon (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary's ) and junior Lindzy Williams (Washington Township, N.J./Westwood) added shots from close range.

The Peahens responded with an attack but were unable to take the lead when the shot execution went wide.

FDU led the shot total, 4-2 in the first 45 minutes of play, with one shot on goal and two corner kicks.

Freshmen Erin Kearns (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen) and Rachel Hoekstra (Bowmanville, Ontario/Clarington Central ) combined for three shots in the first five minutes of the second half and continued to pressure the Peahen backline in the penalty box.

Saint Peter's knocked a long ball down the right sideline in the 54th minute.  With several players near the goal, the ball was pushed past diving FDU keeper Sage DoVale (Lilburn, Ga./Collins Hill).  Reese was able to briefly take control of the ball on the goal line but Amanda Feldstein attacked the ball to push it over the line and give Saint Peter's a 1-0 lead.

Elizabeth Langer (Clinton, N.J./Voorhees) and Chanice Rhoden (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/Dunbarton High School) created scoring opportunities for FDU in the following minutes, but the attempts were halted by SPC senior goal keeper, Caitlin Hoffer.

Saint Peter's was awarded a free kick 20 yards from the goal in the 65th minute.  A quick touch by Kasey Murphy set up Emily Fenice for a long shot.  The ball lofted through the air and into the far upper corner of the net to give the Peahens a 2-0 lead.

The Knights continued to pressure in offensive territory but were unable to even the score.  In the final 15 minutes of play, the Knights outshot the Peahens, 7-0, with three shots on target.

Overall, the Knights recorded eight shots on goal, while the Peahens tallied just three.
