Softball Heads to West Point for Mid-Week Tilt Against Army

The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team will continue the 2012 season with a doubleheader against Army on Tuesday, March 20.  First-pitch in West Point, NY is slated for 3:30 pm.

The Knights are 13-4 this season after going 7-4 at last week's Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, FL.  They are currently led by Cindy Zamudio (Wilmington, Calif./Redondo Union) and Caitlin Bradac (Garden Grove, CA/Garden Grove), who are batting .475 and .464, respectively.  Zamudio has scored a team-leading 17 runs, while Bradac leads the squad with 19 RBIs and 11 extra-base hits.

FDU has 10 batters hitting over .300 through 17 games and as a team, the Knights maintain a .345 batting average.  They have outscored opponents 103-47 so far this season, while holding opponents to 2.95 earned runs per game and a .250 batting average.

Defensively, the Knights maintain a .968 fielding average and have been led by freshman Megan Reiner (Los Angeles, Calif./John Marshall) on the mound.  Reiner is 7-0 in games pitched this year with 44 strikeouts and just seven walks.  The rookie has allowed just eight earned runs in 48.2 innings.

The Black Knights are 11-8 on the season after going 5-3 at the Rebel Spring Games last week.  Both teams faced several similar opponents, including Fairfield, Utah Valley and Youngstown State.  The Black Knights fell to Fairfield, 7-0, and Utah Valley, 3-0, before defeating YSU, 5-4.

Most recently, Army defeated NEC foe Wagner, 5-3, for its fourth consecutive win.

FDU and Army have evenly split 12 games since the 2008 season.  In 2011, the Knights defeated Army, 1-0, at the Rebel Spring Games before splitting a doubleheader at West Point at the end of March.

After the mid-week tilt with Army, the Knights will open Northeast Conference action on Sunday, March 25.  First-pitch in the doubleheader against Central Connecticut State is slated for noon in Hackensack, NJ.
