M. Tennis Set to Begin Spring Break Matches in Palm Springs

Making a trip across the country to Palm Springs, CA, the Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team will compete in three duals in three days beginning with one against Boston University on Tuesday, March, 13 at 12 p.m. On Wednesday, FDU will throw down with Gonzaga at 12 p.m., before completing the spring break trip on Thursday against Fairfield, also at 12 p.m.

The Knights (3-6) have dropped six of their first seven matches to begin the spring, but had a promising 4-3 win over Stony Brook at the Yale Round Robin less than two weeks ago. FDU also boasts junior Ibrahim Shams (Cairo, Egypt/Manor House), the reigning Northeast Conference Player of the Month, who has competed at No. 1 and No. 2 singles so far this spring.

The first team FDU will face in California is Boston University out of the America East Conference. The Terriers have struggled in the early going, losing their first nine matches to start the season. In February, Boston University lost to NEC opponent Bryant, 5-2, and most recently suffered a 7-0 setback at Loyola Marymount on Sunday.

Following BU, the Knights will go up against Gonzaga on Wednesday. The Bulldogs have lost three matches in a row entering the trip, but started the spring season by winning four of their first six. Gonzaga's lineup includes two players with double-digit singles wins in Scott Sullivan with 15 and Zhia Hwa Chong with 14.

Finally, on Thursday, FDU faces Fairfield (5-1). The Stags' only blemish on their record to this point is a 7-0 loss to St. John's their last time out on March 2. Prior to that, Fairfield played highly competitive matches with Rider, Lafayette, Villanova, Boston University and Army, and won each of them. Freshman Ian Tesmond has been a force for the Stags by compiling a 16-4 singles record in his young career.
