Game Notes
The Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball team will look to pick up its first Northeast Conference home win of the season when they host Sacred Heart Saturday afternoon at Stratis Arena for the second of three-straight NEC home contests. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Hackensack, NJ.
The Knights (2-20, 1-10 NEC) never got going as they trailed wire-to-wire in a 65-48 loss to Quinnipiac on Thursday at home. Shooting was the biggest difference in the game as FDU only managed to connect on 32.1 percent (17-of-53) of its field goals including a 7-for-27 performance in the first half. The Knights also made only 1-of-13 shots from three-point range and 13-of-21 free throws. Quinnipiac only shot 39.7 percent (23-of-58) but shot 45.8 percent (11-of-24) in the second half. The Bobcats also made 4-of-8 from behind the arc and 15-of-17 from the free throw line. The visitors also controlled the glass as they out-rebounded FDU, 45-30, including 15 on the offensive boards which resulted in 12 second-chance points.
Graduate student

Scouting Sacred Heart: The Pioneers (10-14, 4-7 NEC), who were picked to finish eighth in the Northeast Conference, currently sit in a three-way tie for the eighth and final playoff spot for the NEC Tournament. SHU is riding a three-game losing streak after sweeping Quinnipiac (78-75) and CCSU (62-61) at home two weekends ago. Over their last three contests, the Pioneers have fallen at home to Wagner (73-54) and Mount St. Mary's (81-80 2OT) and this past Thursday on the road at Monmouth (63-56). Both the Pioneers and the Knights have played Stony Brook and Lafayette in their non-conference schedules. SHU defeated both opponents at home (74-63 vs. SBU, 84-79 vs. LC), while FDU lost to both schools on the road by double-digits (70-46 at SBU, 85-74 at LC).
Redshirt junior Shane Gibson leads the NEC in scoring at 21.6 ppg. He is also shooting 50.5 percent (188-of-372) from the field including a team-best 43.8 percent (64-of-146) from three-point range. Gibson also leads the team in free throw percentage (84.8 percent, 78-of-92) and steals (32). Redshirt junior forward Justin Swindowski is the team's second-leading scorer at 11.1 ppg and leads the squad in rebounding at 5.8 rpg. He also leads SHU in field goal shooting (50.9 percent, 87-of-171) and blocked shots (26), while shooting 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from behind the arc and 80.9 percent (38-of-47) from the charity stripe.
All-Time Series: This will be the 21st meeting between the two schools as they have met at least once every year since the 1999-2000 season, and each team has won 10 games in the series. Both schools won on the other's home floor last season, while FDU has won three of the last four. The Knights are only 4-5 all-time in contests played at Stratis Arena against the Pioneers.
Children's Cancer Recovery: The FDU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in conjunction with the Northeast Conference is conducting “Penny Wars” for the Children's Cancer Recovery Fund. Stop by the table near the entrance and donate to their efforts to help children who are recovering from cancer. Donations can be made during both the men's basketball game and the women's basketball game which follows at 4:30 p.m.
