HACKENSACK, N.J. – After seven road games and over 5,500 miles traveled, the Fairleigh Dickinson University men's basketball team will host Lafayette on Friday, Dec. 7 for its 2012-13 home opener. The Knights will tip off against the Leopards at 7 p.m. at Stratis Arena.
Friday's game will be streamed live and free of charge through NEC Front row on www.fduknights.com.
The Knights are 3-4 on the year and most recently fell to Patriot League favorite Lehigh, 102-62. Prior to the loss at Lehigh, FDU won three-consecutive games for the first time since 2010.
Four players currently contribute to the Knights' offense with over 12 points per game. Seniors Kinu Rochford (Brooklyn, N.Y./James Madison), Melquan Bolding (Mt. Vernon, N.Y./Bishop Stepinac) and Lonnie Robinson (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach) have recorded 15.7, 14.6 and 12.9 points per contest, respectively. Freshman Sekou Harris (Plainfield, N.J./Plainfield High School) is averaging 13 points per game through three games and has dished out 22 assists. The local product was last week's Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week after scoring 25 points and assisting on eight baskets in his first start for FDU.
As a team, the Knights are averaging 65.9 points, while allowing 83.3 points per game. They are shooting 43.1 percent from the field, including 40 percent from three-point range.
Lafayette comes into Friday's contest with a record of 3-7. They have faced NEC opponents in five contests and are 2-3 with losses to LIU Brooklyn, St. Francis Brooklyn and Monmouth.
Most recently, they defeated Saint Francis PA, 61-58, in a come-from behind win on Tuesday.
The team is averaging 65.2 points per game and is shooting 42.7 percent from the floor. Dan Trist is leading Lafayette with 15.3 points per game. Seth Hinrichs, Tony Johnson and Joey Ptasinski all add double-digit points for Lafayette with Hinrichs leading the team on the boards with 4.2 per game.
The Knights are 2-3 all-time against Lafayette. In last year's meeting, Lafayette took an 84-75 win at home. Bolding led the team with a then career high of 33 points. The junior had seven rebounds and went 5-for-8 from three-point range.
FDU will have a quick turnaround as they host Hartford on Sunday, Dec. 9. Tipoff at Stratis Arena is slated for 4 p.m.
