W. Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision at Robert Morris

Box Score

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team suffered its sixth-straight defeat despite winning the first set in Sunday's 3-1 loss at Robert Morris in Northeast Conference action.

In the loss, FDU sees its record fall to 8-20 (4-11 NEC) as the Colonials improve their record to 16-14 (12-2 NEC).

FDU freshman Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) assisted on 49 of the Knights' 56 kills to bring her season total to 934. In the process, she passes 2012 graduate Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air)'s mark of 929 for fifth in single-season history.

On Sunday, the Knights started strong with a .265 hitting percentage en route to a 25-21 win in the first set, but the Colonials bounced back to win the final three sets, 25-17, 25-20 and 25-19.

The first set went back and forth as there were 13 ties and five lead changes. Tied at 15-15, sophomore Hanifa Addi (Springdale, Md./Charles H. Flowers) picked up one of her seven kills followed by two RMU errors for an 18-15 advantage. The Colonials fought back to even the score at 20-20 before the Knights went on a 5-1 run capped by a kill from freshman Jordon Collis (Frisco, TX/Frisco) for the 25-21 set win.

Falling behind early in the second, the Knights put together four points to cut their deficit to one point at 9-8. FDU kept the Colonials within three points until eight of the last 11 points went to the home team as RMU took a 25-17 victory to even the match at 1-1.

In the third, it was the Knights' turn to take an early lead at 6-2. A 6-0 run by RMU, however, gave the Colonials an 8-6 edge that they would not give up the rest of the set in a 25-20 set win.

Moving to the fourth and final set, FDU was down 10-7, but the Knights scored three straight on RMU attack errors for a 10-10 tie. With the Colonials clinging to a 17-16 advantage, freshman Maddie Gibbons (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) recorded a kill and redshirt junior Violeta Slabakova (Shelby Township, Mich./Utica) picked up an ace for an 18-17 FDU lead. Three-straight points for the Colonials put the Knights in a 20-18 hole. FDU picked up one more point to be down just one at 20-19, but RMU tacked on the last five points for a 25-19 win to seal the victory.

The Knights finished with three players with double-digit kills. Slabakova tied a career-high with 17 kills, Collis racked up 16, which was the second most in her career, and Gibbons tied her career best with 11 on the day. Slabakova also added a team-high 11 digs for her first double-double of the season.

The Colonials outhit the Knights with a .321 hitting percentage to FDU's .219. RMU's Lindsey Monger had a double-double with 14 kills and 19 digs, while Hannah Hoffman added 49 assists on offense.
