W. Bowling Ends UMES Hawk Classic With Fourth Place Finish

MILLSBORO, Del. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's bowling team finished competition in fourth place at The Eastern Shore Hawk Classic.  The Knights went 1-2 on the final day to finish the tournament with a record of 9-4.  FDU is 24-10 on the season.

Senior Danielle McEwan (Stony Point, NY/Stony Point) placed fourth among the tournaments' individuals.  She compiled a total pinfall of 1,103 for a traditional game average of 220.6.

As the fourth seed, the Knights took on the third seed, Vanderbilt, in the first match of the day.  The Commodores defeated the Knights, 4-2 in a best-of-seven Baker match.  VU bowled games of 198, 208, 212, 184, 245 and 223 to earn the win.  The Knights bowled games of 166, 220, 180, 237, 182 and 216.  FDU won games two and four to avoid a sweep.

The Knights moved on to face Adelphi after AU upset Sam Houston State in match one.  FDU defeated Adelphi, 4-2, with scores of 180, 215, 204, 199, 189 and 239.  The Panthers challenged FDU with games of 154, 212, 193, 244, 200 and 202.

The win against Adelphi pushed the Knights back into the third-place consolation match where they once again faced Vanderbilt.  The Commodores maintained their advantage over FDU with a 4-2 win.  FDU bowled games of 165, 202, 187, 202, 204 and 173 but were outdone by VU, who bowled 214, 210, 175, 212, 194 and 204.

With the win, the Commodores took third place in the tournament and handed the Knights fourth place.  Central Missouri fell to host, UMES, in the championship match.

“Overall, it was a positive weekend,” said Head Coach Mike LoPresti.  “Anytime you can finish with nine wins in a strong field it is positive and the team can be proud.  However, the reality is that we lost three of four matches and against these teams we need to be performing our best.”

The Knights' fourth-place finish concludes the first half of the season.  They will resume competition after winter break.
