W. Bowling Slips to Fourth at Eastern Shore Hawk Classic

MILLSBORO, Del. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's bowling team dropped to fourth place after the second day of competition at The Eastern Shore Hawk Classic, hosted by UMES at Millsboro Lanes in Millsboro, Del.  The Knights finished the second day of traditional matches with a record of 3-2.

The host, UMES, holds the lead, while Central Missouri, Vanderbilt, FDU and Sam Houston State round out the top five teams.

FDU took on St. Francis NY in match one.  Led by a high score of 247 from Nicolette Sarin (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township High School) and scores of 242 from Danielle McEwan (Stony Point, NY/Stony Point) and 227 from Liat Vizenfeld (Holon, Israel/Campus Kiryat Sharet) the Knights defeated the Terriers, 1,055-858.

In match two, the Knights produced a lower overall score but defeated Morgan State, 940-844.  McEwan led the team again with a 209, while junior Michelle Hunzaker (Cary, NC/Green Hope High School) added a 200.

The Knights recorded their first loss of the weekend in match three when they took on Valparaiso.  McEwan led the team with a 211, but the Knights ultimately fell, 958-876.

FDU battled back in match four with an 891-839 win over Hampton.

The team concluded the day with a loss to Central Missouri.  After falling behind early, the Knights battled to within 30 pins but could not rally for the win in the tenth frame.  McEwan paced the Knights with a 245, while Hunzaker added 215.

“Overall to go 8-2 in this field is not a bad situation,” said Head Coach Mike LoPresti.  “However, we were not able to maintain our effectiveness, efficiency or consistency from the first day of the tournament.  Tomorrow is a new day and we believe we can recapture our level of success from day one.”

The Knights remain in the championship bracket with the fourth seed.  They will take on three-seed Vanderbilt in the first of three best-of-seven Baker matches on Sunday.  They will need to win three games Sunday to earn The Eastern Shore Hawk Classic tournament championship.
