Volleyball Falls to Bryant, 3-0, in Season Finale

HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to Bryant in its final game of the 2012 season.  The Knights finish the season with a mark of 8-21 (4-12 NEC), while the Bulldogs improve to 12-21 (6-9 NEC).

Prior to the game, seniors Lawryn Fowler (Gaithersburg, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) and Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep) were honored for their time with FDU.

The Bulldogs and Knights battled for the first few points before Bryant pulled ahead by outscoring FDU, 14-4 midway through the first set.  Bryant maintained the advantage through the end of the set and at one point held a 24-10 lead.  The Knights rallied at the end of the set to produced four-consecutive points but could not come back.  Set one ended with a score of 25-14 in favor of the Bulldogs.

The Knights developed a lead and maintained it through the first part of set two.  Bryant tied the set at 17 on a kill by Jocelyn Taylor but an FDU kill by Jordon Collis (Frisco, TX/Frisco) gave the Knights the advantage again.  Bryant took a 24-22 lead and needed just one point to secure the set, but Violeta Slabakova (Shelby Township, Mich./Utica) recorded two-consecutive kills to tie the set at 24.  The Bulldogs eventually took the set, 27-25 to take a 2-0 lead in the game.

The third set was another hard-fought battled.  The Bulldogs held the advantage through the set but were never out of reach for FDU.  Bryant took the win, 25-20 to win the match, 3-0.

Slabakova led the Knights with 12 kills, while Collis added eight.  Freshman Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) recorded a team-high 25 assists. 

Defensively, sophomore Deborah Hong (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) led the Knights with 17 digs, while Wheeler added 12. 

Bryant's Kaitlyn Klein led all players with 16 kills.  Jadith Lorenzo recorded 42 assists, while Elena Lohr backed the Bryant defense with 20 digs.
