W. Soccer to Face Garden State Rival Monmouth on Sunday

HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team will face in-state rival, Monmouth, on Sunday, Oct. 7 as Northeast Conference action continues.  Kickoff on The Great Lawn in West Long Branch is slated for 6 p.m.

The Knights have had a full week off since their 2-1 win over Robert Morris.  Freshman Rachel Hoekstra (Bowmanville, Ontario/Clarington Central ) scored both goals last weekend and currently leads the team with eight goals on the season.  The rookie has 17 points on the year, just two away from the single-season program record. 

Six other Knights have found the back of the net this year for a total 15 goals in 13 games.  FDU has held their opponents to 13 goals, while outshooting them, 144-114.  The Knights have averaged 11.1 shots per game, with the backline allowing opponents only 8.8 per game.

Junior Sage DoVale (Lilburn, Ga./Collins Hill) leads the Knights from the net with a 0.95 goal against average and a .759 save percentage.

The Hawks began the season with a 3-4-1 nonconference slate before going 4-0 to start NEC play.  They dropped their first NEC contest of the season on Friday with a 2-1 loss to Sacred Heart.

Dana Costello leads the team with five goals and three assists on the season.  Six other Hawks have scored for MU for a total 16 goals in 13 games.  They have allowed opponents to notch 17 goals, but have out shot their foes, 196-101 for an average of 15.1 shots per game, compared to 7.8 by opponents.

Jocelyn McCoy has played all by one game in goal for MU with a 1.19 goals against average and a save percentage of .689.

The Knights are 1-9-2 all-time against the Hawks, dating back to 2000, including a 2-1 loss in last year's season finale. 

Following the tilt at Monmouth, the Knights will host Wagner on Friday, Oct. 12 as part of a men's-women's double header.  Kickoff in the first game is slated for 4 p.m.
