W. Bowling Enters Championship Round of Wildcat Invitational in First Place

DELAND, Fla. – The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's bowling team finished in first place on the second day of the Bethune Cookman Wildcat Invitational in DeLand, Fla.  The Knights went 4-1 on the day and are now 7-2 on the weekend, and the season.

The Knights finished day two with a total pinfall of 8,519.  Sam Houston State sits in second place with 8,365 pins, while Adelphi, Monmouth and Bethune-Cookman hold the top five positions.

FDU took on Alabama State in game one of the traditional team game format.  Liat Vizenfeld (Holon, Israel/Campus Kiryat Sharet) and Michelle Hunzaker (Cary, NC/Green Hope High School) led the team with scores of 190, while the team combined for a total 881.  Alabama State finished with a score of 977 to hand the Knights their only loss of the day. 

In game two, the Knights challenged Morgan State.  Hunzaker led the team with a 256, while Danielle McEwan (Stony Point, NY/Stony Point) added a 218 and Vizenfeld scored a 200.  The Knights finished with a 936 to defeat Morgan State, who combined for a 777.

The Knights faced Southern in game three a combined for a score of 905 with Hunzaker leading the way again with a 205.  Freshman Abby Aubart made her collegiate debut with a 204. Southern scored a 905, enabling FDU to take its second consecutive win.

In game four, Vizenfeld led the Knights with a 233, giving the team a combined score of 912 to defeat Tulane.  Tulane bowled a 752 to lead FDU to a record of 3-1 on the day.

In the final game of the day, the Knights took on Prairie View A&M.  McEwan paced the team with a 231 to give the Knights a total score of 919, while PVA&M bowled a 878 to round out the day.

Vizenfeld led the field of individual competitors with an average of 202.4 and a high game of 233.  McEwan was fourth with an average of 196 and a total pinfall of 980.  Through four games Hunzaker averaged 202.5 with a total pinfall of 810. 

“This is a great way to start the season because of the challenging lane conditions that we are competing on,” said Head Coach Mike LoPresti.  “We are looking forward to the challenge tomorrow.” 

The Knights will enter Sunday's playoff round with the first seed and will play the #2 seed, Sam Houston State.  With a win, the Knights would earn a bye to the championship game.  With a loss, they will play the winner of the Adelphi/Monmouth game, where the winner will play in the championship game.
