HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team will look to get back in the Northeast Conference playoff picture when the Knights welcome first place LIU Brooklyn to Stratis Arena for a 7 p.m. match on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
The Knights (8-15, 4-6 NEC), currently in sixth in the NEC, are coming off a 1-1 weekend with a 3-0 win over Quinnipiac on Saturday followed by Sunday's 3-0 loss to Central Connecticut State. Against CCSU, freshman setter
Allison Butler (Plano, Texas/Plano) moved into ninth place in single season history with 762 assist.
The last time FDU and LIU (17-7, 10-0 NEC) squared off was Oct. 10 when the Blackbirds were 3-0 winners over the Knights in Brooklyn, N.Y. Since that match, FDU has lost three of four, while LIU is 4-0 and riding an 11-match winning streak.
LIU's last loss was Sept. 15 against Maryland, and has been dominant since then. In NEC play, the Blackbirds dropped two sets to Sacred Heart in a 3-2 win, but have swept every other match.
The Knights have been led all season by senior
Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep), who moved up to sixth in the nation in kills per set with 4.66. Wheeler leads all NEC players with 410 kills and is sixth the nation in points per set with a 5.23 mark. Freshman
Jordon Collis (Frisco, TX/Frisco) has also made a major impact on the offensive side with 196 kills in 2012.
A year removed from winning NEC Rookie of the Year, LIU's Annika Foit is continuing to make her mark on the conference with two straight Molten/NEC Player of the Week awards. Foit, who has now won the award four times this season, leads the team with 334 kills and 3.84 kills per set.
Following the LIU Brooklyn match, FDU will play two matches against NEC teams this weekend. On Saturday, Oct. 27, the Knights will travel to Brooklyn, N.Y. for a 1 p.m. match against St. Francis NY. The following day, the Burgundy and Blue will return home for a 3 p.m. showdown with Sacred Heart at Stratis Arena.
