The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team fell to the Bearcats of Binghamton University, 2-0, on Sunday, September 4 in Vestal, NY.  With the loss, the Knights fall to 0-2-1 on the season, while the Bearcats improve to 3-3.

In the 19th minute, BU's Sarah Furminger passed a through ball to AnnMarie Rizzi who chipped the ball over a charging Stephanie Tanzi (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead.

The Knights were out-shot 12-4 in the first half and went into the break trailing 1-0.

Nine minutes into the second half, Furminger added to her point total with a goal.  After stealing the ball from the FDU defense, Furminger took a shot from 12 yards out that landed in the bottom right corner of the net to give BU a 2-0 lead.

Tanzi was continuously challenged in the second half, including seven saves in the final 30 minutes of play.  She recorded 14 saves in 90 minutes.

The Knights saw shots from five different players, including two from senior Stephanie Austin (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan) and one each from freshmen Kasey Shiavoni and Lilja Gonnarsdottir.

“This was a poor performance for us on both sides of the ball,” said Head Coach Renee Montana.  “We were a step behind all game and could not combine enough to become dangerous.”

FDU is back in action in Hackensack on Friday, September 9 when they take on in-state rival, NJIT.  Kickoff is slated for 7:00 pm.
