Men's Basketball Travels to Monmouth for the First Part of NEC Rivalry Week

The Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball team (4-19, 2-10 NEC) looks to snap a seven-game losing streak and a 10-game NEC losing skid as they hit the road for the final game of three-straight NEC road games when they travel to West Long Branch, NJ to take on the Hawks of Monmouth at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at 7:45 p.m. at the Multipurpose Activity Center.  The game is a part of the Second Annual Northeast Conference Rivalry Week as teams in the conference will play a home-and-home series with their rivals.  The Knights and Hawks are participating in the "Garden State Rivalry Series."  Wednesday night's game will be broadcast on the radio on WFDU 89.1 FM and www.fduknights.com.

The Knights dropped their seventh-straight contest and 10th-straight NEC game as they fell on the road Saturday night at Mount St. Mary's, 70-59.  The difference in the game was an 18-6 run by the Mount that took place over the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half.  The Knights also turned the ball over 15 times, resulting in 17 points off turnovers for the Mountaineers, while the Mount only turned it over five times.  Senior Kamil Svrdlik (Prerov, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Zlin) led the Knights with 19 points, eight rebounds and three blocks.  Senior John Galvin (Weston, CT/Weston) added nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Hawks are 6-18 (2-10 NEC) on the season and are tied with the Knights for last place in the NEC.  They come into the game on a four-game losing streak after they battled Wagner to the final buzzer before falling 63-60 in Staten Island, NY this past Saturday.  Monmouth, which has now played five straight results within a five-point conclusion, was led by Marcus Ware's career-high tying 20 points and seven rebounds, while Mike Myers Keitt added 13 points and seven boards.

After the game, FDU will then host Monmouth on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 2:00 p.m. in Stratis Arena.  Winter Knights Homecoming will be taking place that day as their will be a slew of events taking place before tip-off.  The game will also be broadcast live on MSG.

The Series Versus Monmouth: The Knights are meeting the Hawks for the 66th time, holding a 38-27 lead in the series.  FDU is 16-13 in games played at Monmouth.  The Knights have won four straight in the series, including a pair of six-point wins last season.  In the first edition of NEC Rivalry Week last year, the Knights won in Hackensack, 75-69, before defeating the Hawks two days later in West Long Branch, 71-65.  The two teams have played every season since the 1982-83 season, while the first game in the series was played on Dec. 2, 1972, a 76-46 win by the Knights in Rutherford.
