The Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball team (5-23, 3-14 NEC) will be looking to end its 2010-11 season on a high note as they travel to Hamden, CT to take on second-place Quinnipiac on Saturday, Feb. 26, at 4:00 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center. The game will be broadcast live on MSG.
FDU snapped its 11-game losing skid along with its 14-game NEC losing streak as the Knights won at Sacred Heart Thursday night, 85-74. The Knights took control of the game with a 30-12 run that started with 1:58 to go in the first half and ended with 12:51 remaining in the game. Trailing 37-31, the Knights ended the first half on a 12-1 run, including the final nine points of the half to take a 43-38 halftime lead. With 12:51 to go in the game, the Knights led 61-49 and were in complete control. The lead grew to as much as 18 at 73-55 with 7:52 remaining. Senior Terence Grier (Cranford, NJ/St. Thomas More Prep) had his best game as a Knight. He had a career night as he scored a career-high 34 points on a career-best 14 field goals on 22 attempts. He also tied a career high in three-pointers with four on five attempts. He had 14 points at the break before exploding for 20 in the second half. Senior John Galvin (Weston, CT/Weston) had a solid performance as he picked up his sixth double-double of the season with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Senior Mike Scott (Philadelphia, PA/Texas Christian) almost recorded a triple-double as he added 12 points, eight rebounds, a game-high eight assists and a game-high five steals. Senior Kamil Svrdlik (Prerov, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Zlin) chipped in 10 points and five rebounds. FDU had one of its best shooting nights of the season as they shot 53.3 percent (32-of-60) from the floor, including 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from behind-the-arc. They also recorded 17 assists and only turned the ball over 12 times.
Quinnipiac (20-8, 12-5 NEC) comes into the game winners of five-straight and eight of their last nine. On Thursday night, they defeated Monmouth, 64-59. Justin Rutty compiled a double-double of 17 points and a season-high 17 rebounds as the Bobcats clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NEC Tournament, and at least two home games, should they advance past the quarterfinals.
The Series Versus Quinnipiac: The Knights hold a 16-12 advantage in the series, but are just 4-7 in games played at Quinnipiac. The Bobcats have won four straight in the series, including this season back on Jan. 8 in Hackensack, 66-56. The last FDU win in the series took place on Jan. 3, 2009 as the Knights held on for a 72-68 victory in Stratis Arena.
