The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's bowling team sits in third place after day one of the 2011 NJ Jamboree.  The Knights are hosting the 18-team tournament at Parkway Lanes in Elmwood Park, NJ.  Vanderbilt leads the field with a total pinfall of 3,978.  FDU compiled a total pinfall of 3,929k over five quad-Baker matches.

The Knights began the day with a quad-Baker match against Hampton University.  FDU bowled games of 132, 160, 192 and 185 for a total of 669.  The Pirates accumulated a total score of 767 with games of 181, 186, 176 and 224 to take the win. Hampton led the field with the 767 total as total pinfall determined the standings.

In match two the Knights took on the 2011 NCAA National Champions, The University of Maryland-Eastern Shore.  With four high scores the Knights defeated UMES, 899-728.  FDU bowled 207, 236, 235 and 221, while the Hawks shot 157, 189, 144 and 238.  With the high score the Knights jumped in the standings, taking over first place with a lead of 12 pins.

Match three pitted FDU against the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater.  The Knights struggled to post scores above 200 and compiled a total score of 765 with games of 183, 190, 189 and 203.  Whitewater knocked down just eight pins more than the Knights with a 773 total.

During game three, Vanderbilt took over the leader board with a high series of 870. Going into match four, the Knights trailed by 81 pins.

Stephen F. Austin gave the Knights their third loss of the day with a score of 863-773.  Although the Knights fell, they maintained a position in the top three with a total pinfall of 3,148, just 89 pins behind leader Sam Houston State and 42 pins behind second-place Vanderbilt.

The Knights recorded scores of 197, 204, 207 and 165 against SFA, while the 'Jacks shot 188, 236, 217 and 222.

In the final match of the day, FDU took on the Morgan State University.  With scores of 215, 230, 194 and 184 the Knights totaled 823 to defeat MSU.  Morgan State scored 170, 188, 216 and 173 for a total 747.  With the win, the Knights maintained their third-place standing but cut the pin deficit to just 49 pins.

Although the pin count helps FDU, their record on the season drops to 15-4.  "Our lack of consistency hurt us greatly and it cost us a couple of matches,” said Head Coach Mike LoPresti.  “I realize that our pin fall total has us near the top of the standings, but our priority is always on winning the matches."

The Knights resume play on Saturday with five traditional matches.  FDU will take on Bethune-Cookman, Sam Houston State, Vanderbilt, Howard and Salem International.
