Box Score

Junior Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep) recorded a match-high 26 kills to go along with a team-best 14 digs to help the Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team earn a 3-2 Northeast Conference road win over St. Francis NY on Wednesday night in Brooklyn Heights, NY.

FDU improves to 16-11 (6-7 NEC), while SFNY sees its record slip to 1-29 (0-4 NEC).

Senior Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) did her part to facilitate the offense on the night with 47 of the Knights' 57 assists. Willey was also tough with the serve, producing five aces.

FDU's offense came out firing in the first set, putting together its most productive frame with 16 kills with one error for a .455 hitting percentage. The Knights took a 5-4 lead on a SFNY attack error and never looked back, taking a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-17 win.

The second set could have gone either way with the score tied at 24-24. The Terriers picked up a kill courtesy of Jayma Copeland, who led the offense with 21 kills, then an FDU attack error to give SFNY a 26-24 win to tie the score at 1-1.

The Knights regained their form for a 25-17 win in set three. Again FDU went over .400 for their hitting percentage, finishing with .417 with 14 kills. The Terriers, on the other hand, had as many kills (7) as errors in the set for a .000 hitting percentage.

In the fourth, SFNY led by as many as ten at 21-11 and 24-14 throughout the course of play, and eventually finished with a 25-14 win to extend the match to a decisive fifth set.

With the score knotted at 10-10 in the fifth, senior Sarah Berkland (Newton, MA/Newton North) reeled off three kills in a row for a 13-10 advantage. FDU scored its final two points on a Wheeler kill and a SFNY error for a 15-10 victory to escape with a 3-2 win.

In the match, Berkland moved into second place in school history in block assists with 291 in her career. She is just two away from tying Lauren Boothby for first at 293.

Senior Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic)'s nine kills on the night helped her surpass the 2000-dig plateau for her career, becoming the first player in school history to accomplish the feat. Semler now has 2003  digs and 472 on the season.

The Terriers had four players with double-digit digs, led by Feliz Ramirez's 19, while Kamalei Clifton tied for a match-high with 47 assists.

On the night, the Knights' defense racked up nine total blocks, with one solo and four block assists credited to senior Meghan Alger (Cheltenham, MD/Bishop McNamara).

Next up, FDU will play at Long Island on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 1 p.m., then travel to Quinnipiac on Sunday, Nov. 6, for another NEC contest at 2 p.m.
