W. Volleyball Prepares for NEC Match at St. Francis NY

The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team enters Wednesday night's Northeast Conference showdown with St. Francis NY in Brooklyn Heights, NY looking to right the ship and snap a three-match losing streak.

The Knights (15-11, 5-7 NEC) currently occupy sixth place with four NEC matches still on the schedule, while the Terriers (1-28, 0-13) are searching for their first conference win of the season.

FDU and SFNY met on Oct. 12 at Stratis Arena in Hackensack, NJ with the Knights getting the better of the play in a 3-0 victory.

In the match, junior Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep) missed a double-double by one dig, finishing with 15 kills and nine digs. Wheeler leads the NEC and is seventh in the nation with 4.70 kills per set. Also in the win, senior Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) had the offense rolling with 43 of her team's 48 assists on the day.

The Knights are looking to respond after falling to three of the four top teams in the conference in Long Island, Central Connecticut State and Sacred Heart over the past week.

In its most recent match on Sunday, FDU suffered a 3-0 setback to Sacred Heart at home. Wheeler picked up a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs, while Willey dished out 20 assists, but the Knights were done in by a balanced Pioneer offense with three players with 11 kills apiece.

Senior Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic), who recorded 12 digs against SHU, leads the NEC with 4.82 digs per set.

Over the weekend, the Terriers made the trip to western Pennsylvania, losing 3-1 to Saint Francis PA on Saturday, Oct. 29, in Loretto, PA, before falling to Robert Morris, 3-0, on Sunday in Moon Township, PA.

SFNY's most dangerous offensive player Marina Georgieva leads the Terriers with 307 kills this year and is eighth in the NEC with 3.04 kills per set. The Terriers have struggled defensively, allowing the highest opponents' hitting percentage (.300) and picked up the fewest total blocks (100.5) of any team in the conference.

After Wednesday, the Knights have two road contests scheduled for this weekend. On Saturday, Nov. 5, the team will face LIU at 1 p.m. in Brooklyn, NY and will take on Quinnipiac on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Hamden, CT.
