The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team suffered its 11th loss of the season with a 3-0 result at Saint Francis PA on Sunday, Oct. 23 in Altoona, PA. The Knights fall to 4-11-1 on the season (1-8 NEC), while the NEC defending champion Red Flash improve to 11-5-1 (7-0-1 NEC).
The Red Flash took control of the game early on, with five shots in the first 13 minutes. Senior goal keeper Stephanie Tanzi (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) stopped the attack with three saves and help from pressure by the FDU backline.
In the 40th minute, senior Lisa-Marie Curti (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux) took a shot that was stopped by SFPA keeper, Briana Butcher. The Red Flash responded with an attack in the 42nd minute.
Jennifer Brennan tipped the ball past Tanzi from 10 yards out to put the Red Flash on the board with a 1-0 lead with just three minutes left in the half.
The Knights were outshot in the first 45 minutes, 8-1.
Ten minutes into the second half the FDU front line produced an attack with shots from freshman Alexa Tirelli (Slate Hill, NY/Minisink Valley) and senior Rashidah Sherman (Pelham Manor, NY/Pelham Memorial). Tirelli's shot forced Butcher to make a save, while Sherman's shot hit the crossbar, just missing an opportunity to tie the game.
Saint Francis point-leader, Tesa McKibben carried the ball into the box in the 58th minute. A shot to the right side of a diving Tanzi increased the Red Flash lead to two.
SFPA extended its lead in the 86th minute. A shot by Ellie Gavin was recovered off a save attempt. Mackenzie Walter collected the rebound and placed the ball in the back of the net.
The Knights finished the game with six shots, including four on goal, while the Red Flash compiled 19 shots with nine on goal.
Tanzi recorded six saves and allowed three goals.
FDU returns to action in one week with the final Northeast Conference contests of the season. The Knights will take on in-state rival, Monmouth University on Sunday, Oct. 30 at noon. The Knights' nine seniors will be honored prior to the game at University Stadium in Teaneck, NJ.
