W. Volleyball Looks to Remain Undefeated at Home

The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball will look to continue to protect its home court with two Northeast Conference matches scheduled at Stratis Arena in Hackensack, NJ this weekend. The Knights will face Robert Morris on Saturday, Oct. 22, and return to the court Sunday, Oct. 23, to take on Saint Francis PA. Both matches will get underway at 1 p.m.

Senior Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) has a chance to break FDU's record for career assists in front of her home crowd this weekend. The senior from Abingdon, MD is 37 assists shy of tying Ruth Levy's mark of 3185. Willey has 3148 in her four-year career, including 48 her last time out, a 3-1 win over Bryant on Oct. 16.

The Knights (14-7, 4-3 NEC), who have perfect 4-0 home record this season, faced Robert Morris (11-12, 6-2 NEC) and Saint Francis PA (7-16, 2-6 NEC) in road matches earlier this month, losing to RMU before defeating SFPA.

Against Robert Morris on Oct. 1 in Moon Township, PA, junior Meghan Wheeler had a double-double with 21 kills and 10 digs. She also had a big day on defense with four block assists and a solo block, but FDU could not get by 21 kills and 21 digs from the Colonials' Lindsey Monger in a 3-1 loss.

For the Knights, senior Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) had a match-high 21 digs and Willey had 38 assists in the defeat. On the other side, RMU's Hanna Veith, the reigning Molten/NEC Player of the Week, had a .405 hitting percentage on 19 kills.

RMU has won three in a row, most recently winning road matches over Sacred Heart and Quinnipiac, both by 3-1 scores.
With a 6-2 mark in the NEC, the Colonials are tied for third in the conference standings.

The Knights will look to take down Saint Francis PA on Sunday for the second time this season. The Red Flash have compiled a 2-8 record in away matches this season. Currently sitting in a seventh-place tie in the NEC, SFPA lost a pair of 3-0 matches this weekend to Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart.

SFPA enters the weekend desperate for a win having lost six of its last seven matches.

When the Knights and Red Flash played on Oct. 2 in Loretto, PA, Wheeler had a .387 hitting percentage with 15 kills, while Willey dished out a match-best 22 assists as FDU cruised to a 3-0 win.
SFPA's offense features four players with at least 120 kills on the 2011 campaign, led by Lauren Wingard's 197.

The Knights have won five of their last six matches, thanks in part to the defense around the net, led by seniors Sarah Berkland (Newton, MA/Newton North) and Meghan Alger (Cheltenham, MD/Bishop McNamara), which has averaged 1.91 blocks per set this season.

On Wednesday, Oct. 26, the Knights will continue NEC play against LIU at Stratis Arena beginning at 7 p.m.
