Women's Soccer Falls to Air Force, 1-0, to Conclude the Air Force Academy Tournament

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team (0-4) suffered its second one-goal loss of the season as host Air Force defeated the Knights, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in the Air Force Academy Tournament in Colorado Springs, CO.

The Knights and Falcons played a scoreless first half until Stephanie Patterson of Air Force found the back of the net in the 43rd minute to give the home team the eventual game-winning goal.

Air Force outshot the Knights, 17-7.  Junior Stephanie Tanzi (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) made five saves between the posts for the Knights, while Kelly Stambaugh made three saves for Air Force.

"We battled for 90 minutes of this game," said Head Coach Renee Montana.  "We gave up a late goal in the first half but came back and put some pressure on them.  We had some good opportunities.  The next step is finishing.”

“The effort and composure we showed today is what we need to bring every game.  Fran Yaccarine was our player of the game.  She played brilliantly today in her new position.”

Yaccarine and Tanzi were both named to the All-Tournament team.

The Knights are back in action on Friday, Sept. 10, as they travel to Lawrenceville, NJ to take on intra-state rival Rider.  Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
