Women's Soccer Picks up First Victory of the Season as They Defeat Mount St. Mary's, 1-0

The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team picked up its first victory of the season Sunday afternoon as they beat Mount St. Mary's, 1-0, in a Northeast Conference road contest in Emmitsburg, MD.  The win snaps a 13-game losing streak.  With the victory, the Knights improve to 1-13-0 (1-5-0 NEC), on the season, while the Mount fall to 3-10-3 (0-6-1 NEC) overall.

In the first half, both teams failed to score as the Mount outshot the Knights, 4-2.

However, in the second half, the Knights picked up the pressure on offense and were able to fire seven more shots, while limiting the Mount to four.

In the 74th minute, freshman Noelle Harner (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) delivered a pass to junior Stephanie Austin (Canonsburg, PA/Canon McMillan), who headed the ball in from eight yards out to put the Knights up, 1-0.  The assist and the goal were the first of the season for each player.

The Knights were able to hang on over the final 16 minutes to earn the victory.

The Knights outshot the Mount, 9-8, over the game, including fours shots on goal.  Junior Stephanize Tanzi picked up a well-deserved victory in goal as she made three saves.  Amanda Kitzmiller made three saves for the Mount.

The Knights return to action on Friday, October 22, as they host Robert Morris in a Northeast Conference match.  Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at University Field in Teaneck.
