The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team slipped to 2-2 on the year after losing twice to conclude the La Salle University Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 29. The Knights were downed by the United States Air Force Academy, 3-1, followed by a 3-0 setback to Cleveland State University.
Air Force claimed the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-17, before FDU took the third game, 25-20. The identical margin sealed the match and propelled the Falcons to a 2-1 record on the year.
Freshman outside hitter Meaghan Wheeler amassed her second-straight double-double, connecting for 12 kills and 11 digs, coupled with four aces. Senior counterpart Ali Philbrick contributed 11 kills and 12 digs.
Sophomore setter Sarah Willey distributed 24 assists, with sophomore libero Kelsey Semler chipping-in 18 digs.
The Vikings swept Fairleigh Dickinson, 25-9, 25-17, and 25-15, en route to moving to 3-0 overall.
For a fourth-consecutive match, Wheeler's kill total paced the Knights. The rookie tallied nine kills versus Cleveland State to push her four-match tourney total to 55. She also contributed a team-leading 11 digs.
Philbrick went for seven kills and eight digs. Willey had 16 assists, while Semler collected 10 digs.
Wheeler and Semler both were named the the All-Tournament Team.
The Knights travel to the New Jersey Institute of Technology at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
