The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team ended the year Sunday, May 17 against Wagner College in Staten Island, NY. A 9-1 decision at Richmond County Bank Ballpark dropped the Knights to 16-34 overall and 11-17 in the Northeast Conference.
Senior pitcher John Meadus (Mt. Holly, NJ/Holy Cross) stepped to the plate with two outs in the ninth inning. His only collegiate at-bat produced a towering round-tripper to right field ? representing the squad's lone run.
Freshman Matt Holsman (Coral Springs, FL/Stoneman Douglas) notched a pair of hits, as did senior outfielder Jeff Vincent (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional). In his final game, Vincent worked his way aboard three times.
The loss was attributed to freshman righty Jonathan Scott (Northvale, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan), who was unable to register an out in the third inning. Wagner (30-19 overall, 17-9 NEC) turned in an eight-run frame after recording seven of the afternoon's 15 hits.
Sophomore right-handers Zachary Kisling and Spencer Kelly (Rockville, MD/The Bullis School) combined to work 3.0 scoreless inning of relief, with Kelly contributing 2.0 frames. The Seahawks ? who finished the regular season atop the eight-team league and will be the No. 1 seed in next weekend's NEC Tournament ? did not score in their final five innings at the dish.
