The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team lost a one-run ball game, followed by a two-run decision, Saturday May 16 at Wagner College in Staten Island, NY. The Knights (16-33 overall, 11-16 Northeast Conference) were edged, 1-0, in the opener then fell, 7-5, in game two.

The first contest saw Seahawks' (29-19 overall, 16-9 NEC) junior right-hander Kyle Morrison hurl 6.0 scoreless innings.  Senior righty Andrew Heubner closes things out.

FDU got two runners aboard with two outs in the seventh inning, but the game-ending out was recorded at third base following a bunt single by infielder Mike Eliasen (Swedesboro, NJ/Gloucester Catholic).  The effort enabled the freshman extended his team season-best hitting streak.

Southpaw John Meadus (Mt. Holly, NJ/Holy Cross) made his final collegiate start and took the loss despite turning in a complete game.  A year after firing a two-hit shutout victory versus Wagner, the senior sat down seven and scattered four hits, but suffered the loss.

The home-standing squad's run came on a delayed steal where junior outfielder Damian Csakai ultimately swiped home.

In the nightcap, sophomore designated hitter Joe Martino (Westbury, NY/W.T. Clarke) smacked three hits, while senior catcher Vincent Pennacchio (Huntington Station, NY/Commack) added three RBI.  Eliasen kept his hot streak alive, going 1-for-1.  He has notched a hit in 14-consecutive games.

Fairleigh Dickinson tied things at one in the second inning, as Pennacchio lifted a sacrifice fly.

Eliasen placed the Knights ahead in the fourth inning with a sac fly.  Pennacchio struck for a two-run double, slapping a 0-1 pitch into the right-centerfield gap.  He later scored on a throwing error by Wagner's catcher to cap a four-run frame.

The Seahawks posted six unanswered runs over the ensuing three innings to erase FDU's 5-1 margin.  Fairleigh Dickinson junior right-hander Nicholas Melchiorre fanned six in 6.0 innings, yet was saddled with the loss.

Heubner sealed the game with his third save versus the Knights in as many opportunities.  His 13 saves pace the league.

Fairleigh Dickinson's season concludes with a nine-inning matinee, Sunday, May 17 at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.  Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
