Women?s Volleyball Takes Down Saint Peter?s, 3-1, and Lafayette, 3-2, Saturday

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team improved to 5-3 on the season, following a tandem of wins, Saturday, Sept. 6 in Easton, PA.  The Knights began the day with a 3-1 victory versus Saint Peter's College, backed by a 3-2 decision over tournament host Lafayette College.

 

In game one, senior setter Karolina Kowalski (/North Arlington) accrued a double-double of 18 assists and 11 digs to pace Head Coach Stacey Recanati's squad.

 

FDU took the first game, 25-22, but dropped the following set, 25-19.  The Knights battled to beat the Peahens, 25-22, in the two ensuing games to clinch the contest.

 

Senior middle blocker Lauren Boothby (/Voorhees) slammed a match-high 18 kills (.282 attack percentage), coupled with 11 digs and four service aces.  Junior outside hitter Megan Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) added nine kills.

 

Freshman setter Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) registered 18 assists, with classmate Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic), a libero, tallying 15 digs.

 

The Leopards took the opening set in the afternoon's finale, 25-23.  Fairleigh Dickinson rebounded for wins of 25-18 and 25-15.  Lafayette knotted things with a 25-21 win in game four, before the Knights secured the tournament hardware and match, 15-11, in the fifth.

 

Boothby went for 24 kills (.302 rate), nine digs, and four assists.  Megan Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) chipped-in 12 kills.

 

Kowalski provided 21 assists, nine kills, and eight digs.  Willey also posted 21 assists, in addition to her six digs.  Meanwhile, Semler notched 17 digs.

 

Senior libero Jennifer Brugger (/Centreville) finished five digs, and junior outside hitter Ali Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton), six.  Sophomore middle blocker Sarah Berkland (Newton, MA/Newton North) added two block solos and two block assists.

 

The Knights travel to Seton Hall University at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 10.
