The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team improved to 6-4 on the season by virtue of a 3-1 victory over Canisius College on a neutral court, Friday, Sept. 12 in Lewisburg, PA.
The Golden Griffs slipped to 4-2 on the year, as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference program dropped the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-22, but rebounded to cut the deficit to 2-1, following a 25-17 victory. The Knights clinched the match with a 25-19 decision in the fourth game.
Middle blocker Lauren Boothby (/Voorhees) erupted for a season-high 29 kills, coupled with 10 digs. The senior added four block assists, two service aces, and one block solo.
Senior setter Karolina Kowalski (/North Arlington) also tallied a double-double, going for 30 assists and 11 digs, flanked by eight kills. Senior outside hitter Megan Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) chipped-in nine kills.
The freshmen class stepped up with big showings, highlighted by a team-high 22 digs courtesy of libero Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic). Setter Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) notched 18 assists, with middle blocker Meghan Alger (Cheltenham, MD/Bishop McNamara) registering three block assists.
Fairleigh Dickinson squares off with Northeast Conference foe Saint Francis University (PA) at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 13 in a non-league match. The Knights face the University of Montreal at 2:00 p.m., representing an exhibition contest. Action at the Bucknell University Invitational concludes at 5:30 p.m., versus the host Bison.
