Women?s Soccer Dominates Saint Peter's, 5-0

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team erupted for five goals, Tuesday, Aug. 26 at Saint Peter's College, its best offensive output on the road in program history.  The win marked the most goals scored under Head Coach Renee Montana and the Knights' (1-1) top scoring showing since 2002.

Junior midfielder Jennifer Arceneaux (/Ralston Valley) fed classmate Christine Niven (/Middleboro) in the sixth minute to spark a four-goal first half.  Arceneaux assisted on FDU's first four scoring strikes ? setting a single-game program record ? as Niven, a junior midfielder, registered the game-winner with her lower right finish.

An own goal, the first of two lapses by the SPC defense, put the Knights up 2-0 in the eighth minute.  Arceneaux's corner kick created the play.

In the 21st minute, freshman forward Rashidah Sherman (Pelham Manor, NY/Pelham Memorial) posted her first collegiate goal, finding the left side of the net.  Senior forward Emma Yamada (/LaSalle Academy)'s shot deflected off a Peahens (0-1) defender in the 43rd minute.

Sherman headed home a cross from sophomore defender Lisa-Marie Curti (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux) in the 61st minute to create a five-goal margin.

In her first start of the season, senior goalkeeper Rachel Derrico (/Canon McMillan) made four saves over 90 minutes to record the shutout.

“It feels good to get a win today,” Montana said.  “We started out a bit sloppy, but found our rhythm early enough to finish opportunities.  It is important to use this game as a way to build on our strengths.”

Fairleigh Dickinson accumulated 18 shots and a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks on the afternoon.  Saint Peter's sophomore goalie Leigha Ashmen made five saves for the home-standing Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference squad.

The only other occasion FDU tallied five goals was a 5-0 victory over visiting Robert Morris University, Oct. 4, 2002.

The Knights make their 2008 home debut at 3:00 p.m., Friday, Aug. 29 versus Carleton University.
