The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team lost, 10-2, at Rutgers University, Wednesday, May 7 in Piscataway, NJ. The Knights slid to 12-34 overall.
Sophomore designated hitter Patrick Furey (Ponoma, NY/North Rockland) started-off the fourth with a double. The next batter, junior infielder Zachary Sand (San Diego, CA/Mission Bay), sent a single to centerfield ? his second hit in as many at-bats. However, Furey was thrown out trying to score.
In the bottom half of the fourth inning, freshman outfielder Michael Lang got the Scarlet Knights (21-25-1) on the board with an RBI base knock back through the box.
The advantage was pushed to 4-0 in the fifth inning, capped by a two-RBI triple by sophomore outfielder Jarred Jiminez.
Right-hander Zachary Kisling got the starting nod for a third-consecutive, non-conference contest. The freshman tossed 2.0 scoreless innings, fanning two. Sophomore righty Michael Strachman (Roslyn Heights, NY/Roslyn) took the loss, allowing one run in one inning of relief.
Freshman right-hander Chris Theordor (Staten Island, NY/Staten Island Tech) ? one of six Knights to appear from the bullpen ? hurled a scoreless frame.
In the top of the sixth, junior outfielder Matt Maher (Peekskill, NY/JFK Catholic)'s fielder's choice cut the deficit to 4-1.
Freshman first baseman Jarren Matthews finished with three hits, as did Jiminez to pace the home-standing Big East squad. Both had two RBI, as Rutgers banged out 15 hits.
Sand tallied a trio of hits. Furey reached base on two occasions, as did freshman first baseman Brian Dillon (Sarasota, FL/Cardinal Mooney).
Fairleigh Dickinson will make its final road appearance of the season, with a four-game set at Monmouth University. The Hawks sit atop of the Northeast Conference standings. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m., Friday, May 9.
