The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team versus defeated visiting Mount St. Mary's University, Sunday, April 6 in Teaneck, NJ by a score of 4-1. Two hurlers combined to scatter two hits through nine innings, as the Knights (5-20, 1-2 NEC) notched their first conference victory.
Freshman infielder Andrew Ahn (Manhasset Hills, NY/Benjamin Cardoza) (Manhasset Hills, NY) roped a two-out double to left-centerfield to get the Knights on the board in the second inning. The rookie's first extra base hit of his collegiate career plated junior outfielder Matt Maher (Peekskill, NY/JFK Catholic) (Peekskill, NY), who slapped an opposite field double to start the frame.
In the third, Fairleigh Dickinson went up, 2-0, as Maher's fielder's choice scored junior outfielder Jeff Vincent (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) (Murrysville, PA).
Senior southpaw John O'Hara (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) (Staten Island, NY) registered his second win of the year through 5.0 innings. He struck out the side in the fourth, en route to tallying eight strikeouts. Junior right-hander Ben Green (Plainview, NY/JFK Plainview) (Plainview, NY) allowed one hit over four frames to collect his first save of the year.
Ahn smoked his second two-bagger of the day down the left field line and scored three batters later to grab a 3-0 lead in the fourth.
The Mount's senior lefty Craig Henson (Hagerstown, MD) suffered the loss, logging 4.0 innings and five K's. Junior right-hander Jimmy Mudgett (Sykesville, MD) worked 4.0 inning of relief, allowing one run.
The Knights added an insurance run in the eighth inning via a fielder's choice.
Freshman Alex Andrews (Vienna, VA) reached base twice, accounting for the Mountaineers' only RBI.
Earlier in the afternoon, the two teams finished an extra-inning, halted game from yesterday. Mount St. Mary's earned a 1-0 victory in 11 innings.
