Softball Falls in Doubleheader At Drexel on Wednesday

The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team was swept in a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Drexel, 9-1 and 10-2. The Knights fall to 9-32, while the Dragons improve to 27-17.

In the first game of the afternoon, Drexel put up three runs in the first inning. FDU responded with a run in the top of the second as Kim Carbaugh (Johnstown, PA/Richland) started things off with a single to left center. Meghan Doherty (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) advanced her with a single to center field and Ali Keltos (Shelton, CT/Lauralton Hall) moved them over with another single. Justina Augustine (Geneva, NY/Geneva) singled through the left side to push Carbaugh across the plate.

The Dragons took a 6-1 advantage in the second inning before adding a pair in the fourth and one more in the fifth for the 9-1 win.

In the second game of the day, the Dragons were able to defeat the Knights, 10-2, in five innings. Drexel put two runs up in the bottom of the first inning, but the Knights responded with two in the top of the second to tie the game.

Kristen Coughlan (Mount Royal, NJ/Kingsway) was hit by a pitch as the lead off batter and Lindsay Glidden (Peachtree City, GA/Starr's Mill) singled with a bunt to move her over. Hope Hilman (Bremerton, WA/Olympic)'s bunt single scored Coughlan and Glidden reached home plate on a throwing error.

Drexel added three runs in the third and four runs in the fourth for a 9-2 lead and tacked on one more run in the fifth to end the game. Ali Keltos (Shelton, CT/Lauralton Hall) led the Knights' offense, going 2-for-2.

"Until we continue to recognize what is in front of us and take advantage of those situations and execute the fundamentals, we are going to continue to have difficulties," said Head Coach Dale Martin. "As I've said before, those are the things that we are going to continue to work on."

The Knights will travel to Central Connecticut on May 3 for a Northeast Conference doubleheader.
