The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team was topped, 3-0, by visiting Robert Morris University, Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Rothman Center in Hackensack, NJ. The Colonials stayed atop the Northeast Conference standings, at 5-0, while FDU slipped to 2-3 in league action.
Robert Morris (16-9) took three-straight games, 25-16, 25-15, and 25-19, en route sending the Knights to 14-12 overall.
Senior middle hitter Lauren Boothby (/Voorhees) (Glen Gardner, NJ) led the Knights with a double-double of 10 kills and 11 digs. Junior outside hitter Ali Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) (Lanham, MD) added seven kills, with freshman libero Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) (Allentown, PA) going for eight digs.
Senior setter Karolina Kowalski (/North Arlington) (North Arlington, NJ) notched 12 assists, with freshman counterpart Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) (Abingdon, MD) distributing nine assists ? all in the third set. Kowalski and senior outside hitter Jennifer Brugger (/Centreville) (Clifton, VA) both registered a pair of service aces.
Senior outside hitter Emily Wolthuis (Byron Center, MI) tallied an afternoon-best 14 kills, with freshman setter Alyssa Bennett (Ramona, CA) and freshman middle blocker Hannah Veith (Columbus, OH) both netting eight kills a piece. Wolthuis, who also had 10 digs, hit .636. Bennett went for a .429 attack percentage while providing 36 assists, with Veith hitting .571.
Sophomore outside hitter Charla Drabant (Wheaton, IL) recorded a match-high 17 digs, with senior libero Alaina Gibson (Muncie, IN) chipping-in 12 digs.
Fairleigh Dickinson hosts Saint Francis University (PA) at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 9. The match represents Head Coach Stacey Recanati's squad's final home contest of the 2008 campaign and will serve as Senior Day. Five student-athletes will be honored.
