Manhattan Ends Volleyball?s Four-Game Streak

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team was upset by visiting Manhattan College, Wednesday, Oct. 8 at the Rothman Center in Hackensack, NJ.  Despite a trio of Knights (12-8) notching double-doubles, FDU fell in five games.

 

The Jaspers (4-11) jumped out to a 25-21 advantage in the first game, before Head Coach Stacey Recanati's squad used a .438 attack percentage in game two (25-16) to knot things, 1-1.  Manhattan responded with a third set 25-15 victory, but was edged in game four, 25-23.  The Jaspers took a 2-0 lead in the deciding game and virtually traded points until capturing a 15-12 decision.

 

Fairleigh Dickinson senior middle blocker Lauren Boothby (/Voorhees) (Glen Gardner, NJ) ripped a match-high 25 kills, flanked by 19 digs.  Classmate Karolina Kowalski (/North Arlington) (North Arlington, NJ), a setter, went for 30 assists and 10 digs, with junior outside hitter Ali Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) (Lanham, MD) chipping-in 12 digs and 10 kills.

 

Manhattan hit .225 collectively, paced by 22 kills (.367 attack percentage) by senior outside hitter Sherryta Stokes (Beltsville, MD) and 15 kills courtesy of senior middle blocker Jackie Kapovich (Downers Grove, IL).  Stokes also turned in 14 digs, with Kapovich's .481 clip proving a match-best.

 

Three freshmen made an impact for FDU, highlighted by freshman libero Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic)'s (Allentown, PA) 17 digs and pair of service aces.  Setter Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) (Abingdon, MD) accrued 11 assists, with middle blocker Meghan Alger (Cheltenham, MD/Bishop McNamara) (Cheltenham, MD) finishing with three block solos.

 

On the other side of the net, junior middle blocker Rita Welsh (Collegeville, PA) racked up 5.5 blocks and 12 kills for the Jaspers.  Senior setter Alyssa Getzel (Richmond, VA) registered 54 assists and 12 digs.

 

The Knights are idle for a week, until they head to Saint Peter's College at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 15.
