Women?s Soccer Stays Alive in Postseason Race with 1-0 Victory over Saint Francis PA

Forward Lora Lehr (Rosemere, Quebec/Villa Maria) (Rosemere, Quebec) registered the game-winning goal ? her first of the year ? Friday, Oct. 31 against Saint Francis University (PA).  The junior's fifth scoring strike of the season propelled the Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team to a 1-0 decision at University Field in Teaneck, NJ.

FDU improved to 7-10 overall, with 12 points in Northeast Conference (4-4).  The Red Flash slid to 4-3-1 in league play (13 points), and 7-6-5 overall.

In the 63rd minute, Lehr fired a shot that was turned away by SFU junior goalkeeper Jessica Boyer (Pittsburgh, PA).  A moment later, Lehr corralled the rebound and drove home the deciding marker.

Senior goalkeeper Rachel Derrico (/Canon McMillan) (Canonsburg, PA) made six saves ? five in the second stanza ? en route to collecting her fourth shutout of the season.  Conversely, Boyer made five stops.

“This was a ?must win' to keep our hopes alive,” Head Coach Renee Montana said.  “To beat a very good team, we played smart, composed, and disciplined ? I'm proud.  We still need some other things to happen [Sunday], but we'll focus on doing our part then keep our fingers crossed.”

Fairleigh Dickinson out-shot their visiting opponent 16-11, bolstered by a 12-2 margin after the initial 45 minutes.  Lehr post five shots, with fellow attacker, freshman Rashidah Sherman (Pelham Manor, NY/Pelham Memorial) (Pelham Manor, NY) notching six attempts.

The Knights take on visiting Robert Morris University, Sunday, Nov. 2.  The 1:00 p.m. game, the final regular season contest for FDU, represents Senior Day 2008, as well as Alumni Day.
