Women's Soccer

Women's Soccer Edged at Maryland, 2-1

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team was edged by home-standing University of Maryland, 2-1, Sunday, Sept. 2 in College Park, MD.

 

Forward Katie Hilder (Caringbah, Sydney, Australia/Woolooware) (Caringbah, Sydney, Australia) gave FDU (0-2) a 1-0 advantage in the fourth minute with her first scoring strike of the year.  The sophomore converted a rebound off the crossbar following a shot by senior defender Amanda Wheeler (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) (Marlton, NJ).

 

Maryland senior forward Kelly Rozumalski (Middleburgh, NY) knotted the contest, 1-1, in the 60th minute and sophomore defender Mary Casey (Centreville, VA) netted the game-winner two minutes later for the Terps (1-0-1).

 

Junior goalkeeper Rachel Derrico (/Canon McMillan) (Canonsburg, PA) notched eight saves on the evening.

 

“I am very proud of game we put together tonight,” Head Coach Renee Montana said.  “Maryland is an excellent team and we played with them.  Despite a couple of mistakes, we kept fighting and I'm excited that we're applying everything we've been working on.”

 

The Knights travel to Syracuse, NY to take on the Orange at 7:00 p.m., Friday, Sept. 7.
