Baseball Bested Late at Central Connecticut

The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team fell in the late innings at Central Connecticut State University, 4-3, Sunday, May 6 in New Britain, CT. The Knights slipped to 8-36 overall and 3-16 in the Northeast Conference, receiving a two-hit, two-RBI effort from sophomore infielder Zachary Sand (San Diego, CA/Mission Bay) (San Diego, CA).

Blue Devils' (20-18, 11-9 NEC) righty Evan Scribner ? who tallied a tandem of saves on the weekend ? picked-up up the win, fanning 11, en route to the complete-game victory.

Sophomore infielder Jeff Vincent (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) (Murrysville, PA) lead-off the ball game with a base knock and scored three batters later on a three-bagger courtesy of Sand, as Fairleigh Dickinson grabbed a 1-0 advantage.

CCSU plated three runs in the second frame, highlighted by an RBI double by shortstop Sean Salvatore.

In the top of the sixth, junior outfielder John Paganotti (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph By The Sea) (Staten Island, NY) ? who earlier singled ? scored on a single up the middle by Sand. After working a base-on-balls, senior outfielder Vincente-Alexander Medina (North Bergen, NJ/Paramus Catholic) (North Bergen, NJ) scored on a throwing error to knot the contest, 3-3.

In the seventh inning, sophomore right-hander Ben Green (Plainview, NY/JFK Plainview) (Plainview, NY) surrendered the game-winning run amidst two innings of relief ? a one-out sacrifice fly. Freshman righty Nicholas Melchiorre (Mount Laurel, NJ) received a no-decision, allowing three earned runs through six innings.

The Knights host Long Island University at 3:30 p.m., Friday, May 11 at FDU Field in Teaneck, NJ. The four-game series marks the team's finale home-stand of the season, with Senior Day slated for Saturday, May 12.
