Late Rally Sinks Baseball at Central Connecticut

The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team was defeated by Central Connecticut State University, 5-3, Friday, May 4 in New Britain, CT. Senior infielder Jovan Santos (Woodhaven, NY/Archbishop Malloy) (Woodhaven, NY) tallied a two-out single back through the box in the top of the first inning to plate a pair of runs, as the Knights (8-33, 3-13 Northeast Conference) dropped the first of four ball games this weekend versus CCSU.

 

Southpaw John Meadus (Mt. Holly, NJ/Holy Cross) (Mount Holly, NJ) hurled seven strong innings, receiving a no decision. The sophomore struck out three, allowing one earned run. Sophomore right-hander John Arciuolo (East Williston, NY/Wheatley) (East Williston, NY) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs without recording an out.

 

The Blue Devils (17-18, 8-9 NEC) scored runs in the fourth and fifth frames, twice capitalizing via singles with runners on third base.

 

In the top of the sixth, tied 2-2, sophomore catcher Vincent Pennacchio (Huntington Station, NY/Commack) (Huntington Station, NY) delivered a two-out base hit up the middle. Sophomore outfielder Matt Maher (Peekskill, NY/JFK Catholic) (Peekskill, NY) deposited a pitch into the right-centerfield gap for a triple, driving home Pennacchio.

 

Central Connecticut State scored three runs ? two on sacrifice flies ? in the bottom half of the eighth, after loading the bases with no outs.

 

FDU out-hit their home-standing opponent, 13-6, led by a three-hit performance courtesy of senior outfielder Vincente-Alexander Medina (North Bergen, NJ/Paramus Catholic) (North Bergen, NJ). Sophomore infielder Zachary Sand (San Diego, CA/Mission Bay) (San Diego, CA), Pennacchio and Maher chipped-in two-hit afternoons.

 

Senior outfielder Chris Grabowski (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) (Brooklyn, NY) and junior infielder Luis Rosario (Bronx, NY/James Monroe) (Bronx, NY) reached base on two occasions.

 

The Knights travel to CCSU for a double dip beginning at noon, Saturday, May 5.
