The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team fell at Fordham University, 6-4, Tuesday, May 15 in the Bronx, NY. In the second game of a doubleheader, senior infielder Jovan Santos (Woodhaven, NY/Archbishop Malloy) (Woodhaven, NY) paced the offense with two hits and two RBI, as the Knights dipped to 9-41 overall.
FDU took a 3-0 advantage in the top half of the first. Senior outfielder Chris Grabowski (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) (Brooklyn, NY) singled, stole second, and scored two batters later on a base knock by sophomore infielder Zachary Sand (San Diego, CA/Mission Bay) (San Diego, CA). Santos smoked a bases loaded single into right-centerfield to tack on two runs.
Sand drove in the Knights' fourth run of the contest in the second with a groundout, scoring freshman infielder Michael Zettl (Whiteplains, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) (Whiteplains, NY), who worked a base on balls to start the inning.
Freshman right-hander Stephen Brush (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) (Hillsborough, NJ) picked off a pair of Rams in his second start of his career, en route to tossing three innings and earning a no decision. FU catcher John Mollicone (Cranston, RI) got the Rams (30-20) on the board with a solo homer to left field in the bottom of the fourth inning, marking the home-standing squad's lone hit during Brush's outing.
Fordham tallied two runs in the fifth to trail, 4-3. Infielder Jordan Lert (Westport, CT) lead-off the sixth frame with a two-bagger into the left field corner, ultimately sparking a three-run rally.
In his third appearance of the year, freshman righty Ryan Gagnon (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) (Simsbury, CT) suffered his first loss.
Grabowski and Santos notched multi-hit performances.
The Knights travel to Emmitsburg, MD to take on Northeast Conference-leading Mount St. Mary's in a four-game series at 3:00 p.m., Thursday May 17.
