The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team fell to host Wagner College, 4-2 and 10-2, in two seven-inning games in Staten Island, NY on Saturday, April 28. The Knights fall to 8-29 overall with a 3-10 mark in the Northeast Conference, while the Seahawks improve to 10-26, including a 5-9 record in league action.
Wagner got on the board first in the opening game, putting a pair of runs on the board in the second inning, both runs coming in on a signle through the left side by Joseph DiGeronimo.
The Knights responded in the fifth inning as Vincente-Alexander Medina (North Bergen, NJ/Paramus Catholic) reached on an error and John Paganotti (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph By The Sea) followed him with a single to the right side. Luis Rosario (Bronx, NY/James Monroe) bunted them both over and T.J. Pilla scored them both with a single to right center.
With the score tied, Wagner was able to add a run in the fifth off a DiGeronimo single to center field and in the sixth on a Kevin McDonnell home run to right center.
John O'Hara (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) pitched a complete came, scattering eight hits and striking out seven. Joe Testa was on the mound for the Seahawks,, pitching a three-hitter and allowing no earned runs.
After three and a half scoreless innings to start the nightcap, the Seahawks put up a seven-run fourth inning to take control of the game. The Knights responded with runs in the top of the fifth and sixth, but Wagner put up three runs in the bottom of the sixth to walk away with the 10-2 win.
Down 7-0 in the fifth, Paganotti singled to right center to lead off the fifth inning. Rosario signled to right field to advance him and moved to third on a fielder's choice. Matt Maher (Peekskill, NY/JFK Catholic) singled to left center to score Paganotti and put the Knights on the board.
With two outs in the sixth inning, Medina shot one over the left field fence to make it a 7-2 game.
The Seahawks scored 10 runs on 10 hits, while the Knights' two runs were off of six hits. Maher led the Knights offensively, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The Knights are back in action at Wagner again on Sunday, April 29 with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
