Softball Drops Two at Sacred Heart on Saturday

The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team lost both games of a twin bill at Sacred Heart University, Saturday, April 21 in Fairfield, CT. Senior infielder Dana Myers (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) (Levittown, PA) notched two hits ? including a round-tripper ? two RBI's and scored a run on the afternoon, as the Knights slipped to 6-26 overall and 2-10 in the Northeast Conference

 

In the opener ? an 8-1 loss ? the Pioneers grabbed a 4-0 advantage in the bottom of the first frame. Junior right-hander Ashley Buchanan (West Windsor, NY/West Windsor) (West Windsor, NY) suffered the loss, allowing six hits through six innings. Myers' dinger over the left field fence in the fourth frame represented the FDU's lone run.

 

In the nightcap, SHU plated five runs in the initial three innings, en route to a 6-3 victory. Sophomore righty Courtney Haroules (Littleton, MA/Cushing Academy) (Littleton, MA) took the loss, allowing the contest's first two runs.

 

Myers' base knock in the sixth inning scored sophomore infielder Megan Doherty (Binghamton, NY), who doubled to left-centerfield earlier a batter earlier.

 

Fairleigh Dickinson rallied in their final at-bat, tacking on a pair of runs, highlighted by an RBI single courtesy of sophomore outfielder Stephanie Cahill (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) (Cinnaminson, NJ).

 

Sacred Heart improved to 11-19 overall and 5-5 in league play. In game one, Pioneers' pitcher Megan Spehar tossed a four-hitter, including 10 strikeouts. She also scored four runs, while catcher Caitlin Carroll tallied four RBI's. In the finale, pitcher Bethany Lemenager hurled 5.2 innings of hitless ball to pick-up the victory. Designated hitter Jill Iazetta and first baseman Amanda Bradley both tallied two RBI's.

 

The Knights travel to Piscataway, NJ for a doubleheader against Rutgers University, Tuesday, April 24. Game times are slated for 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
