Baseball Beaten Twice at Sacred Heart Saturday

The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team dropped a pair of games at Sacred Heart University, Saturday, April 14 in Bridgeport, CT. The Knights fell to 7-23 overall and 2-5 in the Northeast Conference, despite six strong innings by junior southpaw John O'Hara (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) (Staten Island, NY) on the hill in game two.

 

In the opener, a 9-1 loss, FDU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, as senior outfielder Chris Grabowski (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) (Brooklyn, NY) tripled to right-centerfield start the contest. Sophomore infielder Jeff Vincent (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) (Belmar, PA) grounded out to plate Fairleigh Dickinson's lead-off man.

 

The Pioneers (13-16, 4-3 NEC) scored nine-consecutive runs ? including six in the fourth frame ? highlighted by a two RBI three-bagger courtesy of Jovan Rodriguez. Right-hander Jay Monti allowed three hits, en route to going the distance and grabbing his fifth win of the year.

 

Sophomore lefty John Meadus (Mt. Holly, NJ/Holy Cross) (Mount Holly, NJ) suffered the loss, hurling four innings. Grabowski notched all three of the Knights' hits.

 

In the nightcap, a 3-2 defeat, O'Hara surrendered four hits and fanned four, en route to the no decision. Sophomore righty Ben Green (Plainview, NY/JFK Plainview) (Plainview, NY) took the loss, allowing the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

 

Outfielder Vincente-Alexander Medina (North Bergen, NJ/Paramus Catholic) (North Bergen, NJ) notched a sacrifice fly in the first, scoring Vincent, as FDU took an early 1-0 lead. The senior tacked on another run with a solo shot to left field in the fourth frame.

 

Right-hander Rob Tencza tossed eight innings for SHU, allowing five hits.

 

The Knights conclude the four-game set versus the home-standing Pioneers at noon, Sunday, April 15.
