Baseball Takes UMES Series, 3-1; Splits Sunday's Action

The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team split a twin bill at the University of Maryland ? Eastern Shore, Sunday, March 4 in Princess Anne, MD. The Knights (3-1 overall) posted a 9-8 in the first game, while the Hawks (2-10) took the nightcap, 6-5.

 

In the opener, sophomore outfielder Matt Maher (Peekskill, NY/JFK Catholic) (Peekskill, NY), sophomore infielder Zachary Sand (San Diego, CA/Mission Bay) (San Diego, CA), junior infielder Luis Rosario (Bronx, NY/James Monroe) (Bronx, NY), sophomore catcher Vincent Pennacchio (Huntington Station, NY/Commack) (Huntington Station, NY) and sophomore infielder Jeff Vincent (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) all notched multiple hits and an RBI.

 

Sophomore lefty John Meadus (Mt. Holly, NJ/Holy Cross) (Mount Holly, NJ) worked six innings to notch the victory, while sophomore right-hander John Arciuolo (East Williston, NY/Wheatley) (East Williston, NY) picked up the save with a scoreless ninth inning.

 

In the second game, Maher paced the offense with a 2-for-2 effort, while Sand chipped in an RBI. Freshman infielder Patrick Furey (Ponoma, NY/North Rockland) (Ponoma, NY) drove in two runs with a 1-for-3 afternoon.

 

Sophomore righty Nick Blanco (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond's) (Bronx, NY) tossed 4.1 innings and took the loss after being touched up for a three-run first frame. Freshman southpaw Terry Lydecker (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) (Pompton Lakes, NJ) pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of relief, striking out three.  

 

The Knights travel to Boone, NC to take on Appalachian State for a double dip at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, March 10.
