The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team was defeated at Seton Hall University, 11-2, Wednesday, March 28 in South Orange, NJ. Sophomore outfielder Matt Maher (Peekskill, NY/JFK Catholic) (Peekskill, NY) was a home run shy of the cycle, collecting a season-high three hits, including an RBI double down the left field line in the top of the seventh inning.
Freshman left-hander Terry Lydecker (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) (Pompton Lakes, NJ) took the loss, allowing two earned runs thought two innings, en route to falling to 0-1 on the year. Sophomore righty Matt Maltese (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) (New Rochelle, NY) worked a scoreless eighth for the Knights (5-11).
Pirates' (7-12) right-hander Greg Miller (Shamon, NJ) hurled five innings of shutout baseball in his first start of 2007.
Senior infielder Jovan Santos (Woodhaven, NY/Archbishop Malloy) (Woodhaven, NY) roped a two-bagger down the left field line in the seventh inning and later scored on Maher's double. Freshman infielder Michael Zettl (Whiteplains, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) (Whiteplains, NY) notched his first collegiate hit to lead off the top of the eighth frame.
The Knights' home opener is slated for 3:00 p.m., Friday, March 30 against the University at Albany.
