Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Delaware State

The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team split a twin bill at Delaware State University, Sunday, March 25 in Dover, DE. After an 11-5 loss in game one, the Knights (5-10) bounced back to notch a 4-3 victory in the nightcap, as sophomore southpaw John Meadus (Mt. Holly, NJ/Holy Cross) (Mount Holly, NJ) picked up his first win of the year, striking out five through 6.1 innings.

 

In the first ball game, senior outfielder Vincente-Alexander Medina (North Bergen, NJ/Paramus Catholic) (North Bergen, NJ) pulled a double down the left field line to plate a pair of runs. Junior infielder Luis Rosario (Bronx, NY/James Monroe) (Bronx, NY) singled home another run in the frame, as FDU jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the top of the first.

 

The Hornets (10-11-1) scored ten unanswered runs ? including runs in the first five innings ? to take the game. Sophomore righty Nick Blanco (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond's) (Bronx, NY) suffered the loss, tossing 2.1 innings and surrendering five earned runs.

 

Freshman infielder Patrick Furey (Ponoma, NY/North Rockland) (Ponoma, NY) collected two hits and scored two runs, while sophomore infielder Zachary Sand (San Diego, CA/Mission Bay) (San Diego, CA) registered a third-straight multi-hit effort.

 

In the nightcap, Faireleigh Dickinson took another 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, as sophomore outfielder Matt Maher (Peekskill, NY/JFK Catholic) (Peekskill, NY) lead off the inning with a base knock. Medina brought in a run with a sacrifice fly.

 

Medina started the sixth frame with a single and later scored on a fielder choice off the bat of senior outfielder Chris Grabowski (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) (Brooklyn, NY).

 

Sophomore right-hander Ben Green (Plainview, NY/JFK Plainview) (Plainview, NY) recorded the game's final two outs to collect his first save of the season.

 

Junior outfielder John Paganotti (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph By The Sea) (Staten Island, NY) collected a pair of hits.

 

The Knights travel to South Orange, NJ to face Seton Hall University at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 28.
