The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team dropped a pair of heartbreakers in a doubleheader at Seton Hall in South Orange, NJ on Thursday evening, falling 1-0 in the first game and 6-4 in the second. The Knights fall to 4-12 on the season while the Pirates improve to 3-14 overall.
The Knights had four hits in the first game- one each from Dana Myers (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman), Hope Hilman (Bremerton, WA/Olympic), Jaime Colvin (Fawn Grove, PA/Kennard-Dale) and Jennifer Boldman (Winter Haven, FL/Winter Haven). Ashley Buchanan (West Windsor, NY/West Windsor) pitched all six innings, allowing only one run and walking only one.
Seton Hall put up the only run of the game in the third inning as Laura Baranek homered to right field.
In the second game, Myers was 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored. Caitlyn Reuter (Richwood, NJ/Clearview Regional) went 1-for-2 with a run socred and Kristen Coughlan went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Seton Hall got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. FDU responded, tying the game in the third inning when Myers smacked a home run to left field.
The Knights were able to take a 2-1 lead in the fourth. Colvin reached base on a fielding error and Boldman followed with a walk. After advancing on a passed ball and Meghan Doherty (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) drawing a walk, Myers singled up the middle to plate pinch runner Justina Augustine. Boldman then took home on a wild pitch.
Seton Hall came back to tie up the game in the bottom of the fifth inning on a home run to left center from Daria Glynos.
In the sixth inning, Fairleigh Dickinson again reclaimed the lead as Reuter began the two-out rally with a single to left field. Lindsay Glidden walked and Coughlan sent Reuter across the plate with a single to center field.
The Pirates were able to get within one, 4-3, with a sixth-inning RBI double to left field from Glynos and then took control with a three-run seventh inning to take the win as Pease shot a home run to left field for the win.
Trina Fields started for the Knights on the mound and scattered four hits and struck out six in 6.1 innings of work.
"We played two games of error-less ball, we just didn't capitalize on our opportunities to score," said Interim Head Coach Tammy Evans.
The Knights are back in action on Saturday, March 24 when they play a doubleheader at noon in New Haven, CT against Yale University.
